Space cat character design
For this project, I wanted to create an astronaut-type character that was fairly simplistic and would fit well as the protagonist of a children's animated cartoon series.
Since I wanted to create a simple, friendly character, I started the design process using silhouettes to give the design a recognisable shape and structure to build off of. I then gradually built up the design and added details until I was happy with how it looked.
For my first set of colour iterations, I used lighter colours to both convey that my character is a friendly hero type, and also to match how astronaut's suits typically look.
I also experimented with a set of predominantly dark colour iterations, and although I prefer the bottom row of designs, it didn't fit well with the characters personality, and seemed too cyber/tech in style.
As I was putting together the final turnaround sheet, I also experimented with an LED style screen integrated into the helmet, rather than the coloured visor I originally imagined for the character. I did not use this concept for the final concept but thought it looked cool anyway.

For my final concept turnarounds, I narrowed my iterations down to the 4 designs I liked the most, and then picked the 3rd design out of those 4 as my final concept piece. I think this design fits the best for my original project guide, encapsulating the astronaut design aspect, as well as having recognisable and positive colours.
